These organic renditions create an abstract of negative and positive space in a topographical and multilayered form reminiscent of a “Pollock” painting. Poured by the artist in a unique and exciting application of splashes and layers, to give dimension, texture and color unique to each piece. Gabrielle emulates the works of the old masters with sensual form and richness of bronze. Almost prehistoric in nature, “Genesis” is rich in visual interest. Raised by gypsies in the Black Forest of Hungary till the age of ten …….. Reality isn’t quite so exotic, but it has had it’s moments. Hungarian born, escaped to Canada in 1956 and educated all over North America. Niagara Falls On. boarding school, St. Catharine’s On. High School, Hollywood California High School. Humber College Etobicoke On. Married and had two incredible kids. Had my first studio at home in Bolton On. as the kids were growing up. Clay was my love then….functional ware than sculptures. Firing in “raku” was a huge inspiration….especially with my present work. Skipping forward…..moved to New York for ten years and continued to hone my sculptural skills. Courses on Long Island, in community art schools as well as the Art Students League in N.Y. It was in N.Y. that I first started doing body molds. It became part of my repertoire of offerings. Then I started incorporating body molds with sculpture. Finished pieces were done in hydrocall, resin and clay. The jump to bronze was an old love re-invented and used with “sand molds.” An age old technique but very different in results than most had seen. Out of all this I have learned that accepting change and working with it is a huge help in getting to the next level of dealing with life. It’s in the “doing” that you learn and as I keep “doing” the work keeps evolving to greater heights. I hope you enjoy then as much as I look forward to making the next and the next.
